FAQ -

Almost forgot about this part until I heard Barry answering the phone at the store.
The conversation on his part went something like this:

"No, just wear a swimsuit.
Yes, you can wear one throughout the race.
No, you can get a penalty for that and there is not a place to change.  Don't think the Port-A-Potty is the ideal place.
Well, just pull on shorts after you come out of the water
.
Yes, that is how everybody else is doing it "

I immediately recognized this conversation as I get this all the time. To those of us who have been around this sport, we tend to forget the little questions and concerns that a newcomer may have. So, if this is your first triathlon, one question may be:
WHAT DO WE WEAR???
For a race of this distance,  they will be wearing either a swimsuit, a tri-swim suit which has a little padding, a tri-short which has more coverage than a swim suit and some may be wearing a one-piece race power suit. Generally, whatever you swim in, you will race in. Some people (usually women) are not comfortable doing the entire race in a swim suit. So, they may pull on some running shorts after they exit the water.  If the water temp is 78 or below, you will also see wetsuits out there. Don't forget to wear something under the wetsuit! :-) Remember - there is a penalty for nudity so you can't change clothes.

After you exit the water, you have the bike leg to complete. This brings up another question: socks.  Usually, they go sockless. But, if you are new and your goal is to finish and you fear blisters - wear the socks. Most will  also probably pull on a shirt.

ALLIGATORS!!!!!

Are there really gators????
Well, that is why the elites are sent out into the first wave.

CAN  SNORKELS BE USED FOR THE SWIM??

Although the USAT rules don’t necessarily list them as unauthorized equipment, they are not recommended for these events. One would need to verify with the head USAT official at the event.   Some calls are left up to the discretion of the USAT official in charge.

The USAT rules is:

Article IV

Swimming Conduct

4.7 Official Equipment.

If provided by race management, a swimmer shall wear the proper official swim cap corresponding to his wave. The penalty for an infraction of this rule is a variable time penalty. For safety reasons if no official cap is provided, all swimmers should wear their own brightly colored swim cap.

4.8 Goggles.

Swimmers may wear, but shall not be required to wear, swim goggles or face masks.

4.9 Illegal Equipment.

Any swimmer wearing any artificial propulsion device, including but not limited to fins, gloves, paddles, or floating devices of any kind shall be disqualified.

Water Temperature:

Historically, the Gatorman Triathlon has been wetsuit legal. To be legal, the water temp has to be 78 or below on race morning. So, all we can do is estimate based on current temperatures- but I don't have an estimate at this point.
Never assume the water will be too warm and leave the wetsuit at home. At least bring it.  We do base it on water temp race morning.  For 1999, the water temp was barely legal and some did question it but it was legal.

At one time, I (Tri-Specialties) did rent wetsuits but we no longer do this. So, borrow or buy your own. We do have them for sale in the store.

Race Results

Results are compiled immediately after the race. ChampionChip Timing will be provided by ChampionChip MidSouth

*this is not the official race Temperature. This is only an idea of what it is. The official Temperature will be determined race morning.
